15 October 2026 · Fridge+ guides

You don't need a babysitter or a big budget for a good date night. You need a plan, and phones down for an hour. Here are forty ideas to get you started.

Cosy

  1. Cook a dish from the place you'd most like to travel to.
  2. Build a blanket fort and watch the first film you saw together.
  3. Candlelit dinner on the floor, picnic-style.
  4. Read to each other from a book you both loved as kids.
  5. Bake something neither of you has made before.
  6. Look through old photos and tell the stories behind them.
  7. Make hot chocolate and sit outside under the stars.
  8. A slow breakfast in bed on a Sunday.
  9. Do a jigsaw with music and no screens.
  10. Write each other a letter to open in a year.

Playful

  1. A "how well do you know me?" quiz.
  2. Board games with a silly forfeit for the loser.
  3. Karaoke night with the songs from when you met.
  4. Recreate your first date at home.
  5. Blind taste test: crisps, chocolate or cheap vs fancy wine.
  6. Paint each other's portraits, badly.
  7. A themed dinner with dress code.
  8. Learn a dance from a video tutorial.
  9. Build a cocktail (or mocktail) menu together.
  10. Play "would you rather" with a twist: you have to explain why.

Deep

  1. Ask each other the questions you've never asked.
  2. Plan your dream trip in detail, budget included.
  3. Share three things you appreciated about each other this week.
  4. Make a bucket list of things to do together.
  5. Talk about how your families celebrated holidays growing up.
  6. Each describe your perfect ordinary day.
  7. Find out each other's love language.
  8. Look back at the year: best moment, hardest moment.
  9. Write down five things you want to try together.
  10. Talk about where you'd like to be in five years.

Low-effort, high-fun

  1. Order from somewhere new and rate it.
  2. An at-home spa evening.
  3. A film marathon from one director.
  4. Stargazing with a free sky app.
  5. A short walk with no phones, then dessert.
  6. Make a playlist for each other.
  7. Try a free online class together.
  8. Rearrange a room together.
  9. A "yes" night: take turns choosing, the other says yes.
  10. Spin for a random idea and commit to it.
